Revolution Is Also Personal: How to do it one step at a time?

This is a picture of my yard. Green revolution right there.

We know it because we live in modern society, there are norms, also known as social pressure, outside stress, etiquette, everywhere we turn. Even for the length of our lawn.

Sometimes, we are not even aware we live under norms. Some are pernicious this way. Other times, we know it but for various reasons, like fitting in, we cave in.

I believe one of the most significative ways to start a revolution of the heart is by ourselves. For example, because I’m vegan, I know a lot of people who saw it was possible and went that way too. I see it happening too with other lifestyles, like unschooling, living zen, or going green.

I love what Jim Morrison said about revolution : “The most important kind of freedom is to be what you really are. You trade in your reality for a role. You trade in your sense for an act. You give up your ability to feel, and in exchange, put on a mask. There can’t be any large-scale revolution until there’s a personal revolution, on an individual level. It’s got to happen inside first.”

Now with the internet and social media if we live according to big truths there are millions different ways to cause millions of personal revolutions. Lighting one little fire of hope at a time.

But we have to start with standing our ground for what we love and respect.

It takes a lot of guts to let mini revolutions be. But it also causes stress if we don’t know better – so we have to be intentional about being zen too. Like everyday, I know thousands of people pass by my house, and may pass judgements. But I don’t care, I really love it better. Because they might not know I’m also protecting a rare treasure, at least for our family and nature.

Wild strawberries, along with personal taste and integrity, are worth it.
